The Sun and His Big Ego

Our sun determines a lot for us. He's a big ball of moody heart. Always angry and always starting some kind of beef that ends in a heated argument with Earth. In which we almost always chose to turn our backs on him. You see it works out for us, if we didn't have this love/hate relationship with the sun, half of us would most definitely burn to a crisp while another large portion of us would freeze. We've learned to embrace this mood cycle as a "day." As the sun gets to be a bit too heated for us we start to pass him on to the next time side of the world. This works pretty well for our relationship sometimes the sun gets to be just a little too much for us and we need some distance so we move farther from the sun, we'll do this for a few months at a time. But then we'll start to get cold and a bit lonely without him. So slowly we'll start getting closer again. Until the tension builds and we go back and forth. Funny enough one round around that block is what we call a "year." In the time it take to to experience these different positions we get to see all sides of the sun, and let me tell you, he's not that pretty to look at from the back. This drama doesn't just affect how much we see of the sun but it also makes it difficult to see other planets. They always pick a side and depending where we stand with the sun, we can't even see some planets or even stars. Like I said it's a love/hate relationship, and as he makes it hard to see other planets and stars, he is always the one that makes it possible for us to see them at all. He's always the center of attention which easily goes to his head, but we appreciate him, after all he does hold us all together.

  1. This is a really interesting take on the relationship between the planets in our solar system. It reminds me of a song, "When the Day Met the Night" by Panic at the Disco. Your writing is creative and passionate, and it is fun to reflect on the beauty and mystery to be found in all of that sky. (:
